It's been eventful... to say the least.
Musings on a never ending virus and 70 million voters for Trump.
(Silent writing hour y’all. So we are on for an hour. Unmitigated writing over Zoom listening to mood writing music.) I have not written in so long. Motivation. Non-existent. So much to ponder. The rank optimism has been replaced by boredom and dread.
Why? Was this virus, which now appears to have been around since September 2019, arrive just to take out President Trump?
I am still in shock at the number of people who voted for him. It is a chasm of misunderstanding.
Have 70 million people gone completely mad. Is the vote for Trump one for rank selfishness and greed?
Does anyone not see the deep and longstanding damage his policies have done for America? The takeover of forests and protected areas. The rollback of key regulations and legislations to protect the food supply. The kickbacks and rollbacks to corporations. The rank and racist immigration policies. The gentrification real estate bomb glossed over as aid masked as Opportunity Zones. The mess that is the FCC. Along comes a virus and you have data caps and redlining with no end in sight. The mismanagement of the virus. Stand by and… Whatever man. I’m done.
Truthfully if he had won. I would have been even more depressed. There were a lot of horns, pots and dancing on the Saturday after the election. It was official then, as it is now. Yet the president still won’t concede.
A lot of people made money while Trump was president, yet crypto regulation and adoption was stalled and late at best. I mean I like the new $5 million cap for unregulated investors with crowdfunding, but lots of change could have be initiated. We will see what the Biden administration brings.
My anger is replaced with disbelief, then relief. At least we voted him out.
But what about 2024.
If I strip it all away. Is it all just fear. “Fear of a Black planet” comes to mind (Public Enemy album). People can vote for a racist narcissist just by triggering language. Is it the feeling that somehow Trump for all his flaws would allow us to create a religious evangelical theocracy? Is that the root of it all? Was it this desire that drove 70 million people to vote for him?
As someone steeped in evangelical thinking, the one thing I can say is that Trump would go against true prophetic interpretation. The narrative was always the emergence of some anti-Christ figure arising before the end of the world. Supreme Court appointments aside - Trumps actions and executive orders are directly opposite to standard evangelical thinking. How are kids in cages a remotely justifiable stance in a religious sphere? What happened to love thy neighbor?
Truth hurts. We are on a dying planet. The world has a useless nuclear arsenal pointed at each other for no reason. A single nuclear war will do irreparable harm. Yet, as a planet we barely have capacity to dispose of the weapons we create. Yeah, lets OK lab grown meat. As if that is not going give us cancer anyway. More plastic, less water. Microbes in the food giving us diseases that we spend millions to cure. Are we deeply in tune with ourselves? Where is the love?
I work in tech. How many more delivery apps do we need? Every single one builds on a false narrative of convenience. This narrative feeds the garbage dumps of the world with single use plastic.
Convenience. That is why Trump got so many votes. Everyone wants a gold toilet I guess.
We have to share. everything to survive the next 100 years. Fossil fuels are bad. Big truck Americana is not sustainable. We need to love and celebrate everyone.
We need a totally new vision of how to approach the future.
Before 2024.
